The Grandville High School RoboDawgs kicked off the second year of their high altitude balloon program with the first of four July launches today. These launches will capture data which will allow the team to experiment with ways to attain and maintain neutral balloon buoyancy in the upper atmosphere. Today’s launch carried multiple processors and sensing devices, allowing the capsule to capture data including latitude, longitude, altitude, barometric pressure, and temperature several times a second during a flight which spanned several hours. The team will analyze the data over the next couple days, and plans to make the next launch in this sequence later this week. 2014-2015 RoboDawg Launch Research leaders include Dakota Hamilton, Steven Aldrich, Jackie Burch, and Amanda Bowerman. College-bound RoboDawgs who are assisting with this summer’s work include Frankie Spica, Josh Leaver, Vinny Spica, Mike Hepfer, and Alex Courtade.
