Grandville has one of the largest elementary robotics program in Michigan, and students here have an opportunity to create and build at an early age. This year we are fielding a record 18 Lego League Junior teams filled with 2nd and 3rd graders from all our elementary schools. This is one of the few programs we run on a centralized basis, and every week almost 150 elementary students come to the Grandville Robotics Center with a parent. This program is also unique, in that all of these teams are coached by high school RoboDawgs (under the watchful eye of Mrs. Hepfer…)
This program is funded each year through the donations of generous sponsors like you. All our teams work with laptops or iPads to program moving parts in models made with a Core parts kit, supplemented with special themed parts unique to each season. FIRST Robotics charges more than $100 a year to register each of these teams, and the Core parts kits they use cost $189.
We need sponsors to support our teams. Detailed sponsorship information is included at the bottom of this post, along with a link for those who want to contribute online. But first, a little about this year’s Lego League Junior Challenge
Every year, FIRST Robotics releases a new Lego League challenge. This year, our teams will participate in the Boomtown Build challenge. Teams will explore the growing needs and challenges of the people in our community. Teams will help to imagine and create a building that solves a problem and makes life easier, happier, or more connected for the people that use it. They will use their imagination and the LEGO® Education WeDo 2.0 to design and program their Boomtown Build. Teams will keep track of what they learn in their elementary Engineering Notebook, and share their ideas in a Show Me poster.
All Grandville Lego League Junior teams will show off their models and materials in a special Lego League Junior expo, held during the Regional Lego League Tournament on Saturday, November 23, at Grandville High School.
You can sponsor our Lego League Junior program for any amount.
You can sponsor a specific team for $200. (If donating online, please add the team’s school or name in the “add note” field)
